Some reminiscences

Household rubbish collection was daily and men would walk up the drive to find the bin
often heavy, metal, and then return it ..
Nowadays in rural shropshire there are alternate fortnightly collections of wheely bins
one for landfill, another for recycling, plus a big blue bag for cardboard.

British Rail, had its faults mostly being unionised and lack of investment.
so a clownish govt privatised the set up into RailTrack, and regional franchises.
and it became worse.
perhaps it will slow a bit when Drivers(which is a low skill job) get paid more than top politicians.
and as for the waste on HS2 ..

NHS - they used to claim it was a world class health service,
but huge amounts of tax payer money now goes to admin (it takes a lot to count the Waiting Lists
and unmaintained buildings
look at health care in Spain, I'm told it is good and a sensible mix ov private and state.

Road Tax.
10 or 20 years ago it seemed fair enough. But the world changes.
climate change, can be partly blamed on 'Gas Guzzling vehicles'
must move to Electric.
Smaller, various Semi-autonomous, Driver assist are appearing in 2024.
people went shopping by car, supermarkets moved out of town, with huge carparks.
the Future is Home delivery.

Plastic
For many tears, Oil was cheap, derived plastics even cheaper.
Pollution results, Climate Change has been creeping up .. getting serious in 2024.

THIS STARTED as "Remember When" - but has drifted into general philosophy.
Human memory is more fragile than at first we delude ourselves.
